Distribution: Canada and eastern USA 
Other Names: American tulipwood, American whitewood, Blue poplar, Canadian whitewood, Canary whitewood, Canary wood, Canoe wood, Green cypress, Hickory poplar, Popple, Saddle tree, Tulip poplar, Tuliptree, Tulipwood, Virginian poplar, White poplar, Whitewood, Yellow poplar.

Characteristics: The sapwood is white and the heartwood varies in colour, ranging from olive green to yellow to brown and may be streaked with steel-blue.  The wood is straight grained, fine textured, fairly soft and light in wheight, about 510kg/m3 when dried.
